Charles Juma Othina is a Lecturer in the Department of Communication and Media Technology in the service of Maseno University. Charles has an experience of over 25 years of university teaching. 

Previously, he served as a reporter and later as a sub-editor at Kenya Times Media Trust. 

Charles later joined the world of academia when he started his teaching career at Kenya Institute of Mass Communication in 1998. He later joined the services of Maseno University where he has been serving since 1999.

Charles holds Master of Arts in Communication from MS University, Bachelor of Journalism and Communication (BJC) and BA (English Literature, Political Science and Economics), both from RD University. 

Charles has held many responsibilities within Maseno University including: exam and time table coordinator, curriculum in-charge, students field trip in-charge.

Meantime, Charles has attended and presented papers in several seminars and workshops including: Using Media to Leverage Visibility as a Poloiyical Aspirant in Kenya; Effective Communication for Service Delivery: A Behavioral Approach; Youth and Peace/Violence in Kisumu; Media and Sustainable Development; “Sourcing Information and Sustaining Environmental Agenda in News Cycles” “A Critic of Maseno University’s Environmental Communication Course” Trainer of Trainees (ToT) and Training Coordinator in the 2009 Kenya Population and Housing Census; Kenya Institute of Education (KIE) and Use of Social Media in Kenyan Politics: Way-forward among a host of others others.

Charles area of research interest is youth and climate change.
