Dr. Abeshu is a researcher in the fields of diaspora, refugee, and migration studies. He currently holds the position of Postdoctoral Fellow at McMaster University. He is also an affiliate researcher with the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University. Academically, Dr. Abeshu holds a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of Bayreuth, Germany, and an M.A. in Governance and Development Studies from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. His research portfolio includes investigations into the African Diaspora, forced displacement, refugee integration strategies, and the role of non-state political power, with a focus on Canada and the Horn of Africa region. Demonstrating his ongoing commitment to cutting-edge research, Dr. Abeshu was recently awarded SSHRC grant. This funding will support the continuation and expansion of his research on the experiences of African refugees who arrive in Canada through labour mobility pathways.
