DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD) IN FINE ART

The Maseno University PhD in Fine Art programme is consistent with Maseno University’s vision premised on discovering and dissemination of Knowledge. This programme exposes its doctoral students to Fine Art Theories and innovation inquiry using diverse methodologies within Aesthetic, utilitarian and Applied Art. The areas are diverse and primarily focus on creativity, Experimental Art, Studio Art, among other subfields of Fine Art. Since Fine Art forms occur in contexts where they interact, the interface areas relating to the foregoing subfields have become focal points of creativity and originality inquiry in the PhD program in Fine Art.

Admission requirements

To qualify for admission into a doctoral Programme in Fine Art, applicants shall be:

  1. Holders of a Masters degree of Maseno University in the relevant field or,
  2. Holders of a relevant Masters degree of any other recognized University.
  3. In addition to the above, applicants must meet the specific requirements of the Doctoral degree programme as approved by Senate.
  4. A duly registered candidate shall be required to pursue his/her programme of study within the stipulated duration, under instruction or supervision by academic staff approved by Senate.

Duration of the Programme

  1. A full time student for PhD. degree shall normally be registered for a minimum of three years and a maximum of five years.
  2.  A part-time student shall be registered for a minimum of four years and a maximum of seven years. 
  3. Continuance of registration will depend on evidence of satisfactory progress.
