Bachelor of Arts IN FINE ART WITH IT

Fine art is a human ability to transform an idea into a form. The form so created is skillfully articulated to satisfy aesthetic or utilitarian factions. This course contributes immensely in all areas of the society such as social, cultural, economic, political, historical, utilitarian and personal expression. This programme provides an opportunity to students to engage with a contemporary approach to traditional media; have an exploration of textile in fine art context; digital media in the form of still motion images; interdisciplinary practice that cuts across the boundaries of traditional media; contextual research in contemporary artistic practice; visual research that promotes exploration and speculation; art criticism and the development of analytical and interpretive thinking. The aim of the course is the achievement of authentic, personal approach to art making, relevant contemporary art and discourse in preparation for a chosen career in the visual art industry.

Preparation for life after university is recognized as an important part of the curriculum. The students will concentrate on their areas of specialization in the last 3 years of study. Course in the current programme are in tandem with those offered in other universities globally and are taught by qualified staff in the department of Art and Design. During the four year degree programme, the courses are designed to expose students to a range of topics within Fine Art. Students are equipped with theoretical and practical skills which enable them to pursue careers in various Fine Art fields and research. To satisfy the stakeholders' requirements the programme is reviewed after every four years. The programme is in tandem with Kenya's vision 2030 that points out on development of talents to encourage self employment and job creation. Therefore the programme is within standards of undergraduate Fine Art courses offered both in Kenya and other reputable Universities globally.

AdmissionRequirements
To be eligible, applicants must satisfy the entry requirements for admission to the School of Arts and Social Sciences as stated in the general Maseno University admission regulations.

Duration of the Programme
The duration of the program shall normally be four (4) academic years.
Teaching methods in all units shall include lectures, field trips, seminars, tutorials, discussions, and practical.

Degree Structure
