These programmse give opportunity to the many people who have talent and interest in either Textile and Fashion Design, Interior Design or Fine art and have not attained the basic university entry requirement to study the subject. In addition the programmes offer those who have certificate in any of the three an opportunity to further their knowledge and skills. The programmes provide a window of opportunity for learners to realize their dream of attaining a degree in their  area of interest through value addition of content.  The Department of Art & and Design therefore offers Diploma courses in the three areas leading to the award of Maseno University Diploma. Upon successful completion learners may progress to the degree level.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must satisfy the entry requirements as stated in the general Maseno University admission regulations.

Applicants should: 

  1. have a minimum of C at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination ( KCSE) or equivalent; or mean grade of C- with a Certificate of music of Maseno university or equivalent. 
  2. have prior knowledge of music:
  1. Either C+ grade in music at KCSE or equivalent 
  2. Or professional body examination in music e.g. Association Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM), TRINITY, University of South Africa(UNISA) Grade V theory.
  1. Successfully perform at the departmental audition. The department of Creative and Performing Arts shall hold audition to determine placement of learners in terms of practical, performance and technical knowledge. This will entail:
  1. Theory paper - to test candidates knowledge and application of elements of music, hence music literacy, harmony and composition marked out of 30%
  2. Aural perception - to test aural discrimination of sounds, sound quality and ability to sing/play at sight, marked our of 20%  
  3. Performance – to gauge candidates mastery of a performing medium and repertoire interpretation marked out of 50%

Candidates scoring a total of 60% and above will be eligible for admission, subject to meeting other university entry requirements. 

Duration of the Programme

The duration of the course shall be four semesters equivalent to two academic years
