Prof. Sussy Gumo is a Professor of Religion (Sociology of Religion) with, renowned scholar and senior Faculty in the School of Arts and Social Sciences-Department of Religion, Theology, and Philosophy. She has a Bachelor of Education (Arts) and a Master of Arts in Religion both from the University of Nairobi and a Ph.D. in Religion from Maseno University, Kenya. Prof. Gumo has embarked on research in the area of sociology of religion with a bias towards Religion and Social change/development, Religion and gender issues, Religion and feminism Religion and health especially in HIV and AIDS and nutrition, Religion and politics, Religion and economic development, Religion and Culture, Religion and Communication, Religion and Climate/ environment and Religion and Human Rights. Prof. Gumo has engaged in several academic discourses through conferences and seminars where she has disseminated her research findings and expertise. Notwithstanding, Prof. Gumo has also shared knowledge through research articles published in peer-reviewed journals both online and in hard copies. Through her research experience, Prof. Gumo has trained participants in various seminars in both qualitative and quantitative methods of research undertakings. As an experienced research scientist in social sciences, Prof. Gumo has won a number of research funds both nationally and internationally that have enabled her to engage extensively in research activities both academic and consultancies. It’s against the above background that Prof. Gumo has managed to supervise and mentor a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students. She has further examined several Masters and Ph.D. candidates’ theses from numerous universities both local and abroad. Prof. Gumo has been and is an external examiner to more than five universities locally and two abroad.
