The French language is increasingly gaining ground in Kenya and the East African region at large, partly due to the fact that some member countries of the East African Federation are Francophone countries. France and other Francophone countries in Africa and beyond are increasingly becoming important partners to Kenya in the areas of business, diplomacy, research, academics and communication. Hence it is necessary to train and produce French-literate intellectuals who can participate meaningfully in these areas and thus contribute to Kenya’s socio-economic development. The Bachelor of Arts (French) with IT programme seeks to train individuals who are well-grounded in French language, linguistics and literature. On completion of their four-year training, graduates can pursue careers in translation/interpretation, diplomatic service, academia, journalism and the hospitality industry among others. The Bachelor of Arts (French) with IT programme has been aligned with the job market requirements. It is also important to note that the programme aspires to train individuals who can be job creators. The Bachelor of Education (French with IT) programme aims to train teachers of French in high school.
