MASTER OF ARTS IN APPLIED LINGUISTICS

This programme offers an interdisciplinary solution to language problems. This multidisciplinary subfield of linguistics exposes learners to language related problems within the fields of language learning and acquisition, foreign language learning, error analysis, language policy, classroom instruction and forensic linguistics. The programme is designed to harness academic excellence in language and pedagogy, and mentor postgraduate students who can contribute effectively to academic and social developments in Applied Linguistics.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for admission into a Masters of Arts in Applied Linguistics, applicants shall be:

  1. Holders of at least a Bachelor’s degree Second Class Honours, Upper Division in either B.A in English, or B.ED of Arts in English from Maseno University.
  2. Holders of a relevant Bachelor of Arts degree in English or Linguistics degree of any other recognized University.
  3. In addition to the above, applicants must meet the specific requirements of the Masters degree programme as approved by Senate.
  4. A duly registered candidate shall be required to pursue his/her programme of study within the stipulated duration, under instruction or supervision by academic staff approved by Senate.

PROGRAMME DURATION

The M.A degree program in Applied Linguistics shall normally take two (2) academic years distributed over four semesters for full/part-time attendance shall not exceed a period of four calendar years from the date of registration.
