Admission Requirements for Postgraduate Programmes
PhD: A Master’s degree of Maseno University in Communication and Media or any other recognized University or other qualifications considered by University Senate as equivalent to a relevant Master’s degree.
Procedure for Application for Admission
Advertisements for the various programmes are placed in the print and electronic media notifying students to submit applications. Students have the following options to submit their applications:

Upon payment of a non-refundable application Fee at stipulated banks, completed. Application Forms are submitted together with the bank deposit slips to the Office of the Registrar, Academic Affairs or Office of the Director, Kisumu Campus. If applying online, applicants are required to upload a scan of the bank deposit slip for the application fee. Selected candidates are informed by the Registrar, ASA within one month of submission of applications. Students admitted through the KUCCPS likewise receive their letters of offer.
Facilities and Equipment
Facilities and equipment within the University are adequate to meet staff and student needs. Adequate consideration has been given to lighting, use of sustainable and non-toxic building materials, and building maintenance. Consequently, all facilities mentioned comply with national building codes, fulfil public health regulations, and public safety regulations. All facilities are also located on land free of any encumbrances. Provisions for physically disabled students are incorporated into all University facilities.
b) Studio
The School of Arts and Social Sciences has one Radio station (98.1 Equator FM) in the department of Communication and Media. In addition, the Department of communication and media Maseno University has has a store equiped with electronic media equipmments which server the students within the department.
IT facilities
Maseno University is proud of its ability to offer IT as a fundamental component of most of its bachelor programmes. The university has spacious and well equiped computer laboratories in the School of computing and informatics. The common IT courses coverage that is readily available in all campuses.
c) Library
The University has expansive library facilities which offer a wide range of services supporting academic programmes. Library services are offered at six libraries within the University. These are located at the College Campus, Siriba Campus, Resource Centre, School of Graduate Studies, Kisumu Campus. In addition to reading materials, university libraries have adequate reading space for students and staff within the university. The Science library in Siriba Campus has designated sections where relevant books for environmental science, hydrology and basic sciences are available. Other new books procured as per the requests of the programme lecturers and students. The institution has further invested in an EZProxy server for off sight access to e-library material. The e-library is embedded in the students’ e-learning portal and will enable students of the programme to access books and other e-resources from outside the library.
Reference Materials
a) The core text books and journals are available in the University library. Maseno University library has over 100,000 volumes of books and access to e-resources of over 30 databases. Out of these, about 30,000 volumes are in the Siriba science library which will be relevant for the programme. This places the library in a position to effectively offer a wide range of information services to support teaching, learning and research.
b) As mentioned, the University has invested in an EZProxy server for off-site access to electronic books. The University has also subscribed to a number of e-journal sites through the Programme for Enhancement of Research Information (PERI). Examples of relevant sites include: Access to Global Online Research (AGORA), Africa Journals Online (AJOL), Cambridge University Press, Emerald Access, Gale Databases among others which will be useful for the programme. Moreover, the institutional internet bandwidth is adequate enabling access to other online information in a timely manner. For accessing electronic resources; operational licenses are available through the Kenya Libraries and Information Services Consortium (KLISC).
