About Art & Design

The Depatrment of Art & Design has three major areas offering courses from Ph.D to certificate namely: Textile and Fashion Design, Interior design and Fine art. One of the key mandates of the Department is to ensure  effective teaching and relevant knowledge and skills to graduates of the three areas to fit in the design industry. Our interactions in different sectors have prompted us to introduce, revise and review our programmes in line with the needs of the Industries. Deign practices were mainly manual unlike today, that it is more technology driven. This is the landscape we find ourselves daily. The Department addresses issues that affect the effective delivery of studio courses to ensure that students are able effectively develop and articulate concepts from start to final product with excellence. It provides a platform for peer learning and support in finding solutions to tackle common classroom challenges and build connections to the industry.

DEPARTMENTAL QUALITY OBJECTIVES

At the start of the semester the lecturers MUST give students the course outlines indicating the content to be covered for each unit.

Invite at least one Industry players to mentor both students and staff on current design industry trends each semester.

To promote a bridge between students and the industry to ten per year.

To increase the rate of student/teacher ratio from two five in research, project development and publication in refereed journals per year.

Involve students in proposing improvements they need in the environment that will encourage creativity and innovation in their yearly projects.

To enhance staff training and development in order to improve service delivery.

To evaluate the learning process by giving at least two CATS and a project/research per semester.
